If ever you have a morning where an inconvenience or disappointment (or both combined) sets you off on the wrong foot for the day, a vegan chocolate espresso cupcake has a good chance of lifting your spirits. I have had such a morning, and I now have such a cupcake. Yesterday the rich chocolate cake and sticky sweet icing had no appeal, but in a grumpy mood a delectable treat can be such a comfort and so I took it out of its little plastic box today and have been savoring every chocolatey crumb.
Today I am learning how to relax on vacation. There is a part of me that has to visit every inch of a new city, spend the daylight hours out seeing all there is to see, and experience every little thing that is unique to an area in order to feel I've maximized my vacation in the most efficient way. If that sounds a bit neurotic, I suppose some would say you've hit the nail on the head, but I say you only live once and there are a hell of a lot of things to see.
My sweet and wonderful host went off to work this afternoon and so today instead of barreling off to the city to take in the sights as I usually do, I settled in with a book and this lovely cupcake and decided that vacation means taking a break. So today I'm taking a break from my vacation-- a vacation within a vacation, if you will.
